Mariah Carey - The Purple Eater

Mariah Carey is eating only purple foods in order to "keep a facelift away." According to the Sun online, Mariah is reportedly eating only purple-colored foods three days a week because of their anti-aging benefits. Apparently her nutritionist (wouldn't we all like to have our own nutritionist and chef?) believes that purple foods are nature's best weapons in the battle against aging, due to the large amounts of vitamins and antioxidents.
I am not one of those "anti-aging" gurus, who focus their attention on hormone manipulation, vitamins, and organic dietary supplements. There is a Board of Anti-Aging Medicine, but it is not one of the boards which is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, which means it is still a bit on the fringe. I encourage my patients to eat a balanced diet and avoid bad habits such as smoking, tanning, and overeating. I believe that it is important to live a life of moderation, which means that it is ok to enjoy eating out and some bad food every once in a while. Not everyone is meant to be 5'6" and weigh 120 lbs.
On the lighter side of things, I guess that the 2 liter jug of Purple Passion that's been in my fridge since college isn't so bad afterall!

Jodie Marsh

When breasts go terribly wrong... Jodie Marsh was seen at a London premiere with what appears to be a belt around her massive "breasts." No, this is not my work! Scary stuff!

Star Jones

Star Jones announced today she's leaving the View. Everyone knows that she and the new host, Rosie O'Donnell, don't get along. I hear that some of it stems from Star's refusal to acknowledge gastric bypass surgery as the source of her massive weight loss.

As Star has lost more and more weight, her face has become more and more gaunt. In most people this is a natural part of the aging process, however with Star it has been vastly acclerated due to her weight loss. The best treatment for this is fat grafting, or transfer. I'd recommend taking some fat from her butt (or thighs or tummy) and tranferring it to her cheeks to give her more youthful fullness. It's a short surgery (only about an hour) and would look fantastic for her, although it would not improve her personality. Plus, she will have the time off soon to recuperate (takes 2 weeks).

Jessica Simpson - rhinoplasty? Doubt it

Did Jessica Simpson have a rhinoplasty? The above photo from Popsugar.com has some people asking this. I doubt that she's had anything done to her nose, especially to create such a large change. The huge sunglasses obscure her face, making it difficult to really tell, but most likely it's just a photo that was taken at a bad angle with the sunglasses low on her face.

Ladies Love Cool James

LL Cool J denies plastic surgery rumors... According to a recent report, LL Cool J has angrily denied using both steroids and plastic surgery to keep looking as good as he does. He states that he's a firm believer in "No pain, no gain." LL is completely ripped and has always looked rock solid. It's been over 15 years since my favorite song of his (Mama Said Knock You Out) came out, and from what I can tell he still looks the same. I used to listen to that song constantly while living in the dorm my freshman year at Kalamazoo College.
As far as plastic surgery, I haven't looked too closely at him, but if he denies it I wouldn't argue with him!

New Template

A New Template for the Celebrity Cosmetic Surgery Blog?
Yes, I've decided to change my template in respect for Dr. DiSaia's Cosmetic Surgery Truth Blog. From what I can tell ours are the two most visited blogs by plastic surgeons on the net today (apologies to any plastic surgeons whose blogs I am not familiar with). We have both used the same template, but his blog was the original one and so I've decided to switch so our blogs don't look so much alike.
Thanks for reading! I will keep the posts coming...

Nicole Kidman

Some Botox for Nicole Kidman? Here is a recent photo of Nicole showing what appears to be a classic "Botox Brow." When Botox is properly administered, the central muscles of the forehead and between the eyebrows are paralyzed. This creates the smooth forehead and relaxed area at the top of the nose/between the brows. Unfortunately (or fortunately for some) the muscles that elevate the brow arch are not paralyzed, causing the brow arch to look unnaturally elevated in some people. Patients can choose between this or the "Frozen Forehead," where the entire forehead (including the brows) doesn't move at all. In most patients, the "Botox Brow" is a much better alternative.

Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra - Does she regret her breast implants? According to contactmusic.com she stated that she went too big with her implants and would like them smaller, closer in size to Jessica Alba's breasts.
I did get a chance to see Carmen while I was in Los Angeles, and she does have quite a large chest. They are likely D or DD cup in size, and are a bit big for my taste. Overall though, she is a bombshell. I also had the pleasure of meeting a relative of hers, who told me that she was a very down-to-earth, genuine person. I've heard the same about her husband, Dave Navarro.

During my breast augmentation consultations I try to allow patients to decide the exact size of implant they are going to get. We use implant sizers which can be placed in a bra to "guess-timate" the best size for the patient. It is pretty rare to have a patient want to get as large as Carmen, but it does happen. It's important for these women to realize that "the larger the implant, the faster they droop."

Cameron Diaz

Has Cameron Diaz had a rhinoplasty? According to the New York Post she went to Ashlee Simpson's surgeon for a rhinoplasty of her own to remove a bump on her nose caused from a surfing accident last year. The article doesn't state who her surgeon was, but there are a handful of prominent Beverly Hills rhinoplasty surgeons who are likely culprits. Some of the L.A. plastic surgeons known for their expertise in rhinoplasty include my mentor Dr. Richard Ellenbogen, Dr. Raj Kanodia, and Dr. Paul Nassif. I've never quite understood the attraction some people have to Cameron Diaz. While I do think she is pretty, I don't believe she is a classic Hollywood beauty like Charlize Theron, Eva Longoria, or Kate Beckinsale.

Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley has denied that her trademark pouty lips have been enhanced with a bit of plastic surgery. Admittedly, I haven't spent too much time looking at her lips. They may very well be natural, but I do wonder if she's had her teeth whitened. When she first came on the scene a couple years ago, I noticed some very British, yellowish teeth in her mouth. Now they appear much whiter, although I suppose it can be good camerawork and lighting.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton has reportedly vowed never to have plastic surgery, after being told by her father that it was "sleazy" and would "cheapen" her image. Hmmm... I find that to be an interesting comment. Obviously the belief that people who have plastic surgery are "sleazy" has gone by the wayside long ago. The vast majority of my patients are hard-working, normal people from all walks of life. Plastic surgery is not for everyone, and I turn down patients whom I believe are not good candidates because of unrealistic expectations or psychological issues. This turns out to be about 1 out of every 5 people who come to see me. In addition, I'm not sure when Paris considered a breast augmentation, but if it was before she was 18 years old, I believe that it's morally wrong for a plastic surgeon to do it anyway. The FDA has an official position against it as well.

Jessica Lange

Jessica Lange...What has happened to her eyes? This is a photo of Jessica Lange last night at the 17th Annual Human Rights Watch International Film Festival. It appears to me that she has had a pretty aggressive browlift, causing her eyebrows to be so high that she looks surprised and unnatural. She likely has Botox in her forehead as well.
There are two types of browlifts, the traditional open browlift with a long scar and the endoscopic browlift. The endoscopic browlift is much less invasive, but arguably doesn't have as much staying power since the scalp is not literally cut out like in a traditional open browlift. In my opinion, most of the people who have their brows excessively elevated have had a traditional open browlift because it is much easier to pull things too high with this type of lift. The giveaway is the scar, which extends from ear to ear or along the front hairline. I haven't performed one of these in two years, as the endoscopic technique is really the most state-of-the-art technique nowadays. The old-style browlifts are best reserved in general for people who have tried the endoscopic technique without good results, as it is one of the most permanent plastic surgeries there is.
On the bright side with Jessica Lange, her neckline looks great and is likely the result of a well-done facelift.

Janice Dickinson

Janice Dickinson was recently filmed while getting Botox injections to her forehead. The bumps you see go away within a couple hours as the swelling dissipates.
Botox injections are now the most common cosmetic procedure performed in the US, both surgical or nonsurgical. It's far more common than chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or any surgery. The reason why it is so popular is because it's nearly painless to have done and causes dramatic visible results within a matter of days. In my opinion, Botox is a better bang-for-your-buck than virtually any other cosmetic treatment. It is great for smoothing the wrinkles of the forehead, between the eyebrows, and the crow's feet outside the eyes. It can also be injected to decrease sweating in the palms or armpits, and decrease the width of the jaw. The company that makes Botox (Allergan) is so successful off this one product that they recently purchased a company (Inamed) which is one of the two remaining breast implant companies in the US.

Ryan Seacrest

Seacrest...Rhinoplasty? It appears that Ryan Seacrest has enhanced his appearance with a nose job (rhinoplasty) to decrease the roundness of his nasal tip. He looks more refined and mature in the "after" photo. It is very surprising just how many stars have had rhinoplasty surgery. While some are obvious, there are many celebrities who appear to have had rhinoplasty surgery whom most people wouldn't suspect. Some people whom I believe have had their nose altered include Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, and Jennifer Aniston. For many, it has been an unfortunate prerequisite to stardom.

In my opinion, the nose should never be an attention-getting feature of the face. If the nose attracts attention, it is almost always in a negative fashion. Some examples of this include Ashlee Simpson, Jimmy Durante, and Pinnochio. The best-looking noses blend into the rest of the features of the face, and allow the other attractive features (usually the eyes, cheeks, or lips) to stand out. Hence, a good rhinoplasty de-emphasizes the nose, bringing out other more attractive facial features. This is most recently obvious with Ashlee Simpson or a "Thriller" Michael Jackson. So when this rule is applied to Ryan Seacrest, one can see that his alleged rhinoplasty was very successful. His nose no longer attracts attention.

Lip Plumpers

The Parliamentary Mime blog has a nice post on topical lip plumpers. It's well-written and very enjoyable to read. It's nice that there is an alternative to the injectables like collagen and Restylane.

Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson visits plastic surgeon or psychiatrist? It's been reported that Jessica Simpson recently visited the office building of a prominent Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. Some sources report that she was there to see a psychiatrist instead of a plastic surgeon.
When I practiced in Los Angeles, we were in an office building which housed numerous plastic surgeons, in addition to OB-Gyn's, internists, and many other types of physicians. The mere fact that she went to a "medical building" doesn't mean much of anything.
Now, I wouldn't be surprised if she did visit a plastic surgeon there. It appears to me that she has had a good amount of work done for someone her age. This seems to include a breast augmentation (B's to D's), rhinoplasty (like sister Ashlee), and multiple lip augmentations. Overall, I think the work she's had done is pretty good, with the exception of overplumping the lips on occasion. I would recommend that she stop at this point, however, at the risk of overdoing things.
